25 January 2007:Gideon Hayford Chonia from University of Zurich, Switzerland visited Wireless Ghana to see how the project is going and to help us expand the project from Apirede through Aburi to Legon. Also he mention of helping us to form a LINUX USER GROUP in Eastern – Region.
10 December 2006: The project coordinator of Wireless Ghana, Mr. Gideon Amoah visited the OVF(www.onevillagefoundation.org) and the
WiLUG(www.wilugghana.org)in Winneba to see how the project is going and to discuss partnership and support for Phase II of the efforts.
1 November 2006: Added a Forum for discussion on implementing community wireless networks in and around Ghana. Active topics are listed on the right side of every page. If you are interested in building wireless networks in Ghana, this is the place to ask questions and share ideas.
6 October 2006: Mr. Marco Pompe, a volunteer with the Berlin Open Access Network in Germany, and Mr. Akwasi Sarpong, president of the Young Critics Society at the University of Ghana, Legon, visited Wireless Ghana to see how the project is going and to discuss partnership and support for Phase II of the efforts.
2 October 2006:Wireless Ghana connected four computers at the Speedy Internet Cafe in Akropong to the Akwapim Community Wireless Network.
2 August 2006: Wireless Ghana has met with BGWireless in Belgrade, Serbia to share ideas on community wireless. The BGWireless project hosts expansive Intranet services – like IM and VoIP – and a thriving user base. Wireless Ghana is planning similar capabilities in the near future. 20 July 2006: Our partner organization, CUWiN, along with UIUC, have been awarded a $500,000 NSF grant “TO DEVELOP NEXT GENERATION OPEN SOURCE MESH WIRELESS TECHNOLOGIES.”
22 July 2006: Connected the Library at NIFA Senior Secondary School to the Akwapim Community Wireless Network.
14 July 2006: Power fluctuations in Akropong ruin a node at the community resource center. A new node is being procured. The electric company of Ghana (ECG) has been notified of the issue.
3 July 2006: successfull preliminary testing of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) between the Apirede and Akropong Community Resource Centers.
June 2006: Added Headmistress offices of NIFA Senior Secondary School to the Akwapim Community Wireless Network.
May 2006: Wireless Ghana begins to assist on two new community wireless networks, in the regional capitals of Koforidua and Kumasi. More to come…
May 2006: Added Dawu offices of Water Aid Ghana [Akwapim Community Development Programme] to the Akwapim Community Wireless Network.
